Kangkelin Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at Yukangkelintag Mt. (40°29′−40°38′N, 78°45′−78°58′E), 10 km northwest of Kalpin County, Xinjiang. It was named by Groeber in 1914.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone. Represented by the Subashicun section of Kalpin County, consisting mainly of light-gray, gray and gray-white limestones. Thickness stable at 50−174 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Disconformable contact with the underlying Upper Devonian at type section; elsewhere unconformable overlaps onto the middle Carboniferous Bijingtawu Fm.
Upper contact
Disconformable contact with the overlying Lower Permian stratum (Wutankule Fm)
Regional extent
Distributed along Aksu−Atushi to the Kalpin area north of Bachu, in a 30−40 km wide zone trending NE-SW

Fusulinids Pseudoschwagerina canniclice, P. tumida, Triticites pusillus, Eoparafusulina xinjiangensis, Pseudofusulina robusta, Schwagerina tersa, S. simplex, Paraschwagerina longtermine; Brachiopods Choristites sp., Neospirifer sp., Dictyoclostus sp., Brachythyrina sp., Alexania sp., Martinia sp.; Corals Kepingophyllum sp., Caninia sp., Anfractophyllum sp. and Yokoyamaella sp. as well as gastropods, bivalves and bryozoans.
